In May 2006, a monstrous earthquake hit central Kalos. It was a living nightmare for all living things that were there when it happened. Lives were lost, many were wounded, there was even a little boy who fell into a coma because of his injuries. No one knows for sure what caused the earthquake. Some suspected it was Missingno, others thought it was just a cruel act of nature, and some thought it was a side effect of Team Magma's actions in the Hoenn region. There was one man, who worked at the local power plant who claimed he may know the cause.

In the power plant, they were having construction workers expand the building underground. The employee at the plant claimed that while one of the construction workers was digging with a jack hammer, he struck something that sprayed what appeared to be blood, then that's when the earthquake began. No one is sure if his theory is correct or it's just a coincidence. The Alliance of Arceus were silent on the matter.

The earthquake lasted for four days, until the Guardian of Land, Groudon, came and used his powers to stop it, then he helped the authorities, fire departments, and rescue teams get the survivors out of danger. Most of Lumiose City's buildings had collapsed, as well as some of the streets, and most of the city's electricity had been cut off. A group of people were trapped in the subway, until one young man found a way out. He left a note for the others telling them he was getting help and to wait in the "usual place," which was beneath the broken sun roof, where they would often cry out for help. The young man was successful in getting help, and all who were trapped at the train station had been rescued.

In one of the buildings in the city, a young woman had went to the second floor, hoping to find her boyfriend who worked there. But just as she got off the elevator, the floor beneath her collapsed and she fell to her death. Rumor has it that her ghost haunts the building, still searching for her boyfriend because she doesn't know if he survived or not. The earth of the playground north of Lumious City was shattered, injuring several children and their families. Route 14 used to have a grave yard, but it was turned into a swamp after some underground water was unearthed, and the graves were torn apart. Police had to have the bodies that were disturbed moved to different grave sites. On Routes 15 and 16, the local hotel was left in ruins. During the earthquake, the hotel sank into the ground while the upper floors fell apart.

After all survivors were rescued and moved to areas that were not effected by the earthquake, Groudon carefully stabilized the ground so that it was be safe to live on again. He kept Route 14 a swamp, as new life had taken up residence there, but he still made sure it was secure. Once his work was done, Groudon left Kalos, to tend to his other duties as a guardian. As two years went by, the people and pokemon of Kalos have been doing what they could to repair the damage. The southern part of Lumious City has been mostly repaired, and has it's electricity back, but the northern part was still a work in progress, and the power plant is still trying to restore power to it. The playground was repaired, however, the local children are not quite ready to go there again.

The hotel on Route 15 and 16 could not be recovered, but it was pretty much safe for young people to adventure through at this point and salvage anything they could find. The railways throughout Kalos are still being repaired, it may even take another year for them to be completely fixed. But even if central Kalos was fully restored, nothing could bring back the lives that were lost. No one could forget that horrible event that destroyed so much. And even after two years, that one little boy is still in a coma, with his father still waiting for him to finally wake up.
This is somewhat based on a theory I have about the Kalos region. It's possible that not long before the events of Pokemon X and Y, some sort of natural disaster hit Kalos, which is why the Lost Hotel was destroyed, the blackout in the northern part of Lumiose City, etc.

And yes, this flashback chapter does have some relevence to the plot of my fanseries.
